What do the laundry symbols mean?

Symbols for washing

The number within the bowl with water shows the water temperature you should use. If it says 30, that means the water should be 30 degrees One line under the bowl of water shows that the item needs to be washed using a sensitive programme (A sensitive means less water intake and less movement) Two lines under the bowl of water means the item should be washed on an extra sensitive programme - such as a programme for wool The number within the bowl with water shows the water temperature you should use. Symbols for drying

A dot within a circle within a square means that the item can be tumble dried - but at a low temperature Two dots within a circle within a square means that the item can be tumble dried at a normal temperature If there is an X across the circle within a square, then the item shouldn't be tumble dried at all A horizontal line within a square means the item should be dried on a flat surface

A diagonal line and two horizontal lines within a square means the item should be drying in shade Two vertical lines means the item should drip dry A diagonal line and two vertical lines means the item should drip dry in shade

 

Dry cleaning symbols

A circle with a letter inside is a guide for your dry cleaner. This tells them which chemical to use to get your item clean A circle with a letter with a line underneath tells your dry cleaner to use sensitive chemicals A circle with an X on top means the item shouldn't be dry cleaned

 

Bleach symbols

A white triangle means all types of bleach are permitted A triangle with two diagonal lines within means all types of bleach are permitted - except anything containing chlorine A triangle with an X over means you should refrain from using bleach

 

Iron symbols

One dot inside the iron means the temperature of the iron shouldn't surpass 110 degrees. Also steaming the item could damage the quality of the fabric. Two dots inside the iron menas the temperature of the iron shouldn't surpass 150 degrees. Two dots inside the iron menas the temperature of the iron shouldn't surpass 200 degrees. An X over an iron means you should refrain from ironing and steaming the item
